Sir Alfred Joseph Hitchcock was an English film director and producer, at times referred to as „The Master of Suspense“. Hitchcock’s first thriller, The Lodger: A Story of the London Fog (1926), helped shape the thriller genre in film. Hitchcock moved to Hollywood in 1939, and became a US citizen in 1955. Hitchcock later received his knighthood from Queen Elizabeth II in the 1980 New Year Honours. Robert Bernard Altman February 20, 1925 – November 20, 2006) was an American film director, screenwriter, and film producer. An enduring figure from the New Hollywood era, Altman was considered a „maverick“ in making films with a highly naturalistic but stylized and satirical aesthetic, unlike most Hollywood films.
His style of filmmaking was unique among directors, in that his subjects covered most genres, but with a „subversive“ twist that typically relies on satire and humor to express his personal vision. Altman developed a reputation for being „anti-Hollywood“ and non-conformist in both his themes and directing style.
